Brand Spotlight: Albright's Raw Pet Food

Everyone loves a good origin story. Here at Rawsome Pet Pantry, we’re no different, especially when it comes to learning how the best-for-your pet, raw pet food brands got their start. Today we’re taking a lookback at one of our favorite brands: Albright’s!

The year was 2004. The place: Fort Wayne, Indiana. The people: Lee and Karen Albright. This husband-and-wife duo had a dream: open an upmarket delicatessen specializing in quality meats.

Soon they made that dream reality. And like that great baseball movie, Field of Dreams, tells us: “If you build it, they will come.” And come they did! Their store was so popular that in just 10 years from launch they opened a second location in the city.

More customers brought more business, but not in a way the couple expected. They discovered that customers didn’t just want locally sourced, all-natural, high-quality meat for themselves; they wanted it for their dogs, too! And requests for cuts of meat to feed four-legged customers of grew. 

When customers began asking whether the couple made their own dog food an idea seed was sown! The couple began exploring raw feeding and its many benefits, and soon realized they were at the forefront of a new movement.

Increasing numbers of pet owners were frustrated with mass-produced commercial pet food which often came bulked with grains, meat-by-product flavorings, and artificial supplements. Many began to embrace “the idea of feeding their dogs a diet of fresh, uncooked meat and offal, lightly supplemented with other natural, unprocessed ingredients. The same way dogs have fed themselves in the wild for thousands of years.”

Karen and Lee realized that what was then available on the raw dog food scene was either beyond-your-average-dog-owner’s-budget good quality or affordable poor quality.

Since their deli business was built on the premise of providing exceptional quality at a reasonable price, the couple knew they could do the same with raw dog food.

They began with the best ingredients, the right equipment, and proper licensing. So began the cycle of creating recipes, testing and refining. The couple’s beloved beagle, Rosie, made a perfect tester!

As soon as Albright’s Raw Dog Food hit the shelves of their stores, it was an instant hit! And as demand grew, so did their reach. 

Today Albright’s ultra-premium raw pet food is sold by selected retailers, vendors, and distributors throughout the U.S. We, at Rawsome Pet Pantry, are delighted to partner with Albright’s to bring their tasty recipes to happier and healthier pets in the Sacramento region.
